Bishop T.D. Jakes Experiences ‘Health Incident’ Mid-Sermon; Church Says He Is ‘Stable’
2 min readPopular pastor and motivational speaker Bishop T.D. Jakes had a “slight health incident” following a sermon he preached on Sunday, November 24, according to the posting shared on his verified social media page.
The statement said Jakes, while ministering at The Potter’s House of Dallas, promptly received medical attention and is now “stable” under the care of medical professionals. During the service that was livestreamed, Jakes seemed to catch his breath, sat down and wiped his face before he lowered his microphone and appeared to convulse. He was quickly attended to by people on stage before the livestream ended.
“During today‘s service, Bishop T.D. Jakes had a minor health incident and received immediate medical attention following his powerful hour-long message,” the church wrote in a statement. “Bishop Jakes is in stable condition and currently under medical care. We, the entire Potter’s House family, are very grateful for the love, prayers, and support of our community during this time. Thank you for your understanding and continued prayers.”
It was part of a Sunday service that started at 9 a.m. CT promoted as a time to “soak up the warmth of family, feel the presence of the Holy Spirit, and receive a life-changing Word.” Jakes himself, through Instagram, had encouraged people to attend the service either in person or online, sharing he was “ready to share what God gave me with YOU.”
The Potter’s House of Dallas, a nondenominational, multicultural megachurch that Jakes founded in 1996, boasts a membership of 30,000 and is a nonprofit. Since news of his health incident broke, followers have flooded Jakes’ social media with messages of support, prayers, and wishes for his swift recovery.
