TikTok star Seemah Mangolwane has earned recognition as an award-winning content creator after winning the Emerging Social Media Personality of the Year award at the 2024 SA Social Media Awards (SASMAs) on Saturday. Known for her humorous TikTok skits and viral videos, Seemah has risen to fame through her engaging content using trending TikTok sounds, which have earned her a loyal fanbase.

Seemah, who also co-hosts the Spreading Humours podcast with Zille Wizzy and Yanda Woods, took to Instagram to express her gratitude. “I just want to say thank you to everyone who voted for me. I’m finally an award-winning content creator! As I SHOULD!” she wrote. Reflecting on her journey, Seemah emphasized the importance of resilience, stating, “One thing I’ve prayed for ALWAYS is strength to overcome everything and anything that I face in this industry because I don’t know anyone who has taken so much hate with grace and turned lemons into lemonade like I did.”

The recognition has been met with heartfelt congratulations from various popular South African influencers. Amapiano artist Mawhoo, content creator Moghelingz, YouTuber Lasizwe Dambuza, and fashion icon Kefilwe Mabote all took to social media to celebrate Seemah’s achievement, further solidifying her presence in the social media space.

However, Seemah’s success comes amid a controversy involving her former friend and fellow content creator, Cyan Boujee (Honour Zuma). Earlier this month, Cyan faced online backlash after leaking Seemah’s personal information on Instagram. Among the sensitive details shared, Cyan revealed Seemah’s under R200 bank balance, which sparked outrage from Seemah’s supporters and fellow social media users.

The incident led to a wave of online support for Seemah, with many defending her against Cyan’s actions. On X (formerly Twitter), users were quick to point out that having R170 left in one’s bank account was not an embarrassing situation, and it was inappropriate for Cyan to share such personal details. One user, @foreverdimps, expressed, “Seemah didn’t say anything bad about this girl for her to crash out like this, if anything she defended her. She’s just a miserable person who can’t maintain a career without drama in it.” Another user, @hurricane_liya, added, “That bank balance is not embarrassing at all. What’s embarrassing here is Cyan exposing herself for purposefully staying logged in and snooping through Seemah’s emails for TWO YEARS. Like get a life.”

As Seemah continues to celebrate her award win, many of her followers have subtly thrown shade at Cyan in the comments of her TikTok videos. In one post, TikTok user @Naomi wrote, “Sesi Cyan was found shaking, anyway congratulations Seemah.” Another fan, @Katli, commented, “iR170 ka Seemah bheka iyenzani (Look at what Seemah’s R170 is doing). Congratulations mama.”

Despite the drama surrounding her personal life, Seemah has chosen to focus on her career and continue creating content that resonates with her audience. Her TikTok skits have been celebrated by fans, and her newfound recognition at the SASMAs only adds to her growing influence. Seemah’s rise to fame has been marked by her ability to remain resilient in the face of online negativity, proving that she has the strength to overcome any obstacles in her path.

As she enjoys her success, Seemah remains a powerful figure in South Africa’s social media landscape, showing that even in moments of personal adversity, her talent and determination shine through. With the support of her fans and fellow content creators, Seemah is poised to continue her journey as one of the leading figures in the world of digital content creation.
