Lifelong Friends Celebrate 50 Years of Memories by Recreating Their First Girls’ Trip Photo
2 min readFriendship and nostalgia combined beautifully as four childhood friends recreated a beloved photo from their first vacation together, 50 years after the original was taken.
Carol Ansbro, Marion Bamforth, Susan Morris, and Mary Helliwell, all from West Yorkshire, still smile when reminiscing about their 1972 trip to Torquay, Devon-the laughter of youth, caravans shared in cramped conditions, and days free as birds. The friends returned to the same seaside town some decades later, to reenact the same iconic shot which sealed the opening chapter in their lifelong relationship, coinciding with their 70th birthdays.
“Our first trip was unforgettable,” said Susan, a grandmother of five. “We felt so grown-up, exploring the English Riviera without our parents. It was such a thrill!”
The recreation wasn‘t without its challenges. The group struggled to pinpoint the exact location of the original photo, but a helpful hotel staff member guided them to the spot, now missing one of the buildings from their original snapshot.
Dressed in outfits reminiscent of the 1970s, the friends changed into their clothes in a public restroom before striking the same pose from decades past.
“It was hilarious but so worth it,” laughed Carol. “The photo is incredible and brought back so many memories.”
For Marion, the moment was deeply sentimental. “It felt surreal, standing there together after all this time. It was incredibly emotional.
Having been friends since primary school, throughout a lifetime of experiences shared among the four women, this tribute to their enduring bond made for a milestone that was truly unforgettable.
Their recreated photo is so much more than just a picture; it‘s a toast to friendship, laughter, and shared memories.
