Gambia to shine in forthcoming Doha Marathon
1 min readSheriff Sowe and Samba Bah are two of Gambia’s greatest long-distance runners geared up to put their motherland up front during the 13th edition of the Doha International Marathon slated for tomorrow, 17 January. Promising to be the biggest, most vibrant with more than 15,000 participants so far for this year‘s marathon courtesy of sponsors, Ooredoo, there are plans to ensure it keeps a scenic route along Doha‘s stunning corniche.
Nicknamed the “Star Sowe,“ Sheriff Sowe is perhaps the most burgeoning star in Gambian athletics. Last week, a personal best in the 5km race in Qatar started turning heads in his favor. Having now set sights on a half marathon podium finish, determination and current form will be some of his strongest weapons.
His teammate, Samba Bah, a strategic course and very resilient runner, displays toughness. Well trained in disciplines, Bah prepared well for the grueling course; another hopeful that he may have his good moment and lead Gambian glory once more.
The two athletes are preparing themselves for the unforgiving track, showing their talents, while lifting Gambian athletics to greater heights in world events. Gambians and fans alike have united in support of Sowe and Bah, hopeful that they can make the country proud.
