Israeli Airstrikes Kill at Least 27 in Gaza

Israeli airstrikes on the Gaza Strip during the night into Monday resulted in the deaths of at least 27 Palestinians, according to local health officials. The Israeli military has not issued any comments regarding these attacks.

One of the airstrikes targeted a home in Beit Lahiya, killing 10 individuals, including Abdel-Fattah Abu Mahadi, a Palestinian prisoner who had been released as part of a ceasefire agreement. His wife, two children, and a grandchild also lost their lives in the attack. The Indonesian Hospital in Beit Lahiya, which received the bodies, confirmed the deaths.

Another strike targeted a residence in Gaza City, resulting in the deaths of seven people, including two women. Two others were wounded in the attack, according to Gaza’s Health Ministry’s emergency service.

Heba Abu Mahadi, the mother of a one-and-a-half-year-old child who died in the airstrikes, expressed her grief: “I got the news in the morning,” she said, holding her son’s lifeless body. “He was burned. The bones in his head are gone, a child like this.”

The bombardment, along with widespread hunger, is taking an immense toll on Gaza’s most vulnerable populations, including pregnant women and children. These strikes are part of Israel’s daily bombardment of Gaza, which resumed after the ceasefire with Hamas was broken on March 18.

Since March 2, Israel has also blocked the entry of fuel, food, medicine, and other humanitarian supplies into Gaza, citing this measure as part of its strategy to pressure Hamas into releasing hostages. Hamas is believed to still be holding 59 hostages, with 24 of them thought to be alive. The majority of the hostages were released in ceasefire agreements or other negotiations.

The United Nations’ International Court of Justice began hearings on Monday to examine Israel’s legal obligations to ensure the facilitation of humanitarian aid into Palestinian territories. Israeli Foreign Minister Gideon Saar argued that the case was part of a broader campaign to delegitimize Israel. Furthermore, Israel has prohibited the UN agency for Palestinian refugees, UNRWA, from operating on its territory, claiming the organization has been infiltrated by Hamas.

According to the Palestinian Health Ministry, the death toll in Gaza has reached 2,151, with 732 of the victims being children, since Israel broke the truce on March 18.

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has vowed to continue the offensive until all hostages are returned and Hamas is either disbanded or agrees to disarm and vacate the territory. In the face of continued military actions, including the targeting of locations in Gaza and southern Lebanon, Israel has maintained its stance on its objectives in the region.

On Sunday, Israeli jets also targeted the southern suburbs of Beirut, marking the third strike on the area since a ceasefire between Israel and Hezbollah took effect in November. Israel’s military claimed it had targeted a site containing precision missiles linked to Hezbollah. Lebanon’s President Joseph Aoun condemned the attack, although there were no immediate reports of casualties.
