Former President Donald Trump has come under fire for misleadingly suggesting that pop star Taylor Swift has endorsed his presidential bid. On social media, Trump shared several images that falsely depicted Swift and her fanbase backing him. The images, which appeared to be created with artificial intelligence, included manipulated graphics and fake endorsements.

In his post, Trump wrote “I accept!” alongside the images, which were taken from various social media sources. These visuals included doctored photos of Swift’s fans wearing shirts that read “Swifties for Trump” and reworked propaganda imagery, such as a mock World War One recruiting poster featuring Swift urging people to vote for him. One image even included a satirical headline about Swift’s fans turning to Trump after a security scare at one of her concerts in Vienna. The posts attracted significant criticism from Swift’s supporters, who accused Trump of spreading false information.

Taylor Swift has not publicly endorsed any candidate for the 2024 election. In the 2020 election, she supported the Democratic Party and was vocal in her criticism of Trump. During the national protests following the police killing of George Floyd, Swift condemned Trump’s actions, writing on social media, “After stoking the fires of white supremacy and racism your entire presidency, you have the nerve to feign moral superiority before threatening violence? We will vote you out in November.”

The controversy over Trump’s posts highlights the broader issue of misinformation in political campaigns. Earlier this year, it was uncovered that numerous deepfake images showing black individuals purportedly supporting Trump, though no direct link was found between these images and Trump’s campaign.

The backlash from Swift’s fans, known as Swifties, underscores the potential harm of using celebrity images and names misleadingly in political contexts. Swift’s representatives have not commented on Trump’s actions, but her supporters have been quick to denounce the manipulation of her image for political gain.
