Liverpool forward Mohamed Salah has hinted that this season might be his last with the Reds following a spectacular 3-0 victory over Manchester United on Sunday. Salah played a crucial role in the triumph, scoring once and providing two assists as Liverpool dominated the match at Old Trafford.
The 32-year-old Egyptian star has been in impressive form at the start of the Premier League season, netting three goals and delivering three assists in Liverpool’s first three games. Reflecting on his strong performance and the reasons behind it, Salah revealed that he’s entering his final season at Liverpool with a sense of liberation and minimal pressure.
“I had a good summer and had a long time to myself to try to stay positive because, as you know, it’s my last year at the club,” Salah shared with Sky Sports. “I just want to enjoy it and not think about it too much. I feel like I’m free to play football and then we’ll see what happens next year.”
Salah’s current contract with Liverpool is set to expire at the end of the 2024/25 season. Since joining Liverpool in 2017, he has been a prolific scorer, amassing 160 Premier League goals. Despite his stellar performances, Salah has been the subject of speculation regarding a potential move away from Anfield. Last year, Liverpool reportedly turned down a substantial offer from Saudi Arabia for the forward.
Addressing questions about his future, Salah noted that there have been no discussions with the club about a contract extension. “Coming into the game, I said it could be the last time [I play here with Liverpool],” he said. “No one at the club has spoken to me about contracts, so I’m just like, ‘OK, I’m playing my last season’ and we’ll see what happens at the end of the season.”
Salah continued, “So far, we don’t know which club, but so far yeah my last game here with Liverpool. It’s not up to me, but nobody has talked to me about a contract with the club. We’ll see.”
New Liverpool manager Arne Slot addressed Salah’s comments after the match, focusing on the present rather than future uncertainties. “It’s a lot of ‘if.’ At this moment, he is one of ours and I am really happy with him being one of ours and he played really well,” Slot said. “I don’t talk about contracts with players, but I can talk for hours about how Mo played today.”
Salah’s outstanding performance against Manchester United was in line with his impressive track record against Liverpool’s fierce rivals. He has now scored 10 goals in nine appearances at Old Trafford. Liverpool’s victory leaves them in second place in the Premier League, tied on nine points with Manchester City, who currently lead the table.
As Liverpool continues their unbeaten start to the season, all eyes will be on Salah to see how his final year unfolds and where his future may ultimately lie.
