2 min read

Africa Station is the focal point for celebrating African athletes and cultures during the Paris Olympics. Situated in the northern part of the French capital, this fan zone welcomes both locals and tourists, providing a vibrant atmosphere where visitors can immerse themselves in African music, food, art, and craftsmanship.

All 54 African countries have sent delegations to the 33rd Olympiad, showcasing the continent’s diverse talent and culture. The transformation of the Stade Robert Cesar into an African village highlights countries such as the DRC, Cote d’Ivoire, and Morocco, offering a glimpse into their unique traditions and heritage.

Ivorian participant Okeleye Akin Yao expressed optimism about African athletes’ performance: “In the Olympic Games, we know that Africa has a special particularity with lots of trophies and medals. I hope we’ll have more medals like European and American countries and others. This is our wish.”

The initiative is a collaborative effort between the Association of National Olympic Committees of Africa (ANOCA) and the city of Ile-Saint-Denis. Khoudri Hakima emphasized the importance of sharing Algerian heritage: “We are here to share with visitors the Algerian heritage and culture, which are of abundance. We want to show our ‘kaada’ (traditional evenings) where all our families gather.”

ANOCA estimates that Africa Station will attract over 1,300 visitors daily. The fan zone offers free entertainment, although some concerts will require tickets. Throughout the Olympics, Africa Station will host a variety of shows, exhibitions, and athlete meet-and-greets. Special events will also take place during the Paralympics, ensuring a continuous celebration of African culture and sportsmanship.
