Rapper, Siyabonga George, from Humansdorp has won the Best Hip Hop Artist 2024 award at the Mzansi Arts and Media Award (MAMA) for the second consecutive year.

In a remarkable display of talent and perseverance, Humansdorp’s own Siyabonga George, better known by his stage name Exxo daSniper, has once again claimed the title of Best Hip Hop Artist at the prestigious Mzansi Arts and Media Awards (MAMA) for 2024. This win marks his second consecutive year receiving this honor, further establishing him as a formidable presence in the South African music scene.

Born in KwaMaqoma (formerly Fort Beaufort), George relocated to Humansdorp in 1998, where he began his musical journey. His passion for rap ignited in 2001 when he formed a music group with friends. Although he faced several challenges, including the disbandment of his initial group, he persevered and in 2008 reunited with select members to form Dogg Squad. This new venture resulted in the release of four albums and numerous mixtapes, showcasing their evolution as artists.

Beyond his contributions to Dogg Squad, George has also made a name for himself through various collaborations with a wide array of artists. His recent solo work, the single “Kwaze Kwamnandi,” released in May 2023, features renowned artists Zakwe, Merel, and Procasette, and was skillfully produced by Stidow from Gqeberha. This track not only highlights his lyrical prowess but also solidifies his status in the competitive hip hop genre.

In addition to his music career, George has ventured into entrepreneurship, launching a clothing brand called Kasi Sniper in 2015, which has gained significant popularity in the local market. This dual focus on music and business illustrates his multifaceted talent and determination to succeed.

Reflecting on his recent achievements, George expressed his elation at winning the Best Hip Hop Artist award once more. “I was nominated earlier this year, and given the high number of nominees in the category, it was a tough competition,” he shared. “Fortunately, through hard work and dedication, I emerged victorious again. I am over the moon, and winning this award for the second time has greatly boosted my confidence.”

George credited his loyal supporters for their unwavering belief in him and for casting their votes throughout his journey. “I am bringing these awards home to Kouga,” he declared, emphasizing his commitment to his roots and the community that has supported him.

Currently, George is channeling his energy into his highly anticipated album set to be released in 2025. This upcoming project will feature collaborations with prominent artists such as Zakwe, MusiholiQ, Flash IKumkani, Siya Shezi, and Ab Crazy, further showcasing his connections within the industry. As the album develops, George is open to collaborating with even more artists and seeks support from the Kouga Municipality and local businesses to help realize his vision.

“My goal is to bring these well-known artists to my community,” George said. “I also want to assist other artists in achieving their dreams and, in turn, uplift the living standards in our community.”

Siyabonga George’s story is one of resilience and ambition, as he continues to rise in the music industry while giving back to his community. His dedication to both his art and his entrepreneurial ventures exemplifies the spirit of a true artist who understands the importance of lifting others as he climbs. With his sights set on the future, George’s journey is just beginning, and it promises to inspire many along the way.
