Convicted serial rapist, Nkosinathi Emmanuel Phakathi

Nkosinathi Phakathi, a 40-year-old South African man, has been sentenced to 42 life terms for committing 90 counts of rape between 2012 and 2021, including assaults on children as young as nine. The Johannesburg High Court found that Phakathi showed “no remorse” and was “beyond rehabilitation.” His crimes occurred in Ekurhuleni, often targeting victims while they traveled to school or work. He even posed as an electrician to gain access to homes. This case highlights South Africa’s alarming rates of sexual violence, with over 9,300 rapes reported in just three months this year.
