Rose Amoanimaa Yeboah has made history as the first Ghanaian female high jumper to compete in the Olympic Games. The 22-year-old athlete, who made her debut at the Stade de France in Paris, did not advance past the qualifying rounds but delivered a notable performance.
Entering the competition with a season’s best jump of 1.97 meters, Yeboah faced formidable opponents, including Serbia’s Angelina Topic and Ukraine’s Yaroslava Mahuchikh, who were strong contenders for the finals. Despite the stiff competition, Yeboah showcased her skills with a commendable performance.
Yeboah started strong, successfully clearing the 1.83-meter bar on her second attempt. Although she struggled with the 1.88-meter bar, failing to clear it on her initial two attempts, she managed to overcome it on her third try, keeping her hopes alive. Unfortunately, she was unable to clear the 1.92-meter bar after three attempts, preventing her from progressing to the 1.95-meter height.
Despite not advancing to the finals, Yeboah’s participation marks a historic milestone for Ghana. Her performance in Paris highlights her potential and sets the stage for future successes. Yeboah’s impressive track record includes winning gold at the African Games and the African Athletics Championship. She won her first gold medal at the African Games after clearing a height of 1.90 meters and secured her second consecutive gold at the African Athletics Championship in Mauritius two years ago.
Yeboah’s achievements have already set high expectations for her future. Her strong performance at the Paris Olympics suggests that she could be a significant contender for Ghana in upcoming international competitions, including the 2028 Olympics in Los Angeles. Despite the challenges at her Olympic debut, Yeboah’s perseverance and past successes indicate a promising career ahead.
