Lupita Nyong’o Embracing Single Life After Heartbreak
2 min readOscar-winning actress Lupita Nyong’o has embraced single life after a string of turbulent relationships.
In an interview with Harper’s Bazaar UK, Nyong’o has spoken about her road to healing and self-discovery after she broke up with sports commentator Selema Masekela. She said her love for her cat, Yoyo, has been one of her greatest recovery tools.
“My love for my cat is peculiar,” Nyong’o revealed. “If I’m ever so lucky to be in a romantic relationship again, it’ll be because of him.”
The actress took Yoyo in after her split and has since become attached to her pet. She shared how her family is entertained by her attachment to her feline companion, teasing that Yoyo has “stolen her heart.”
Nyong’o and Masekela broke up last year, very publicly, with the actress seeming to insinuate at the time that she’d been betrayed by deception. Heartbreak aside, Nyong’o has taken important lessons away about herself and herself first.
“It’s hard enough to go through heartbreak privately,” she told Harper’s Bazaar UK. “When the world has an image of you in relation to someone else, it prolongs the healing process.”
The actress has been suffering her share of personal struggles, too, like having an intense fear of cats. Of course, with filming “A Quiet Place: Day One”, that fear has passed, and she is proud ownership of a cat.
As Nyong’o proceeds through her journey of self-discovery and healing, her story inspires others who have had to endure heartbreak. Her openness and honesty about her experiences offer hope and encouragement for those going through similar challenges.
