“Who wants a parade?!” exclaimed Los Angeles Dodgers manager Dave Roberts on the field at Yankee Stadium after his team secured their eighth World Series title with a thrilling 7-6 comeback victory in Game 5. The answer is clear: Los Angeles is ready for a celebration, set to kick off at City Hall on Friday at 11 a.m. PDT (2 p.m. ET).

“I don’t know how you are feeling, but I am feeling like victory!” declared Mayor Karen Bass at a press conference on Thursday, where she announced her role in officially opening the parade.

The festivities will begin at City Hall, which shone in Dodger blue on Thursday night. The team will then ride atop double-decker buses along a 45-minute route, starting on 1st Street, turning south on Grand Avenue, and heading west on 5th Street. The parade will conclude at the intersection of 5th and Flower Street. Following the parade, a ticketed event will take place at Dodger Stadium at 12:15 p.m. PDT (3:15 p.m. ET). Due to logistical challenges, fans will only be able to attend one of the two events, as stated by the Dodgers.

The timing of the celebration is poignant, as it falls on what would have been the 64th birthday of legendary Dodgers pitcher Fernando Valenzuela, who passed away last month. Valenzuela’s memory will be honored with a uniform patch featuring his name and number throughout the World Series.

This year’s Fall Classic garnered impressive viewership, averaging 15.81 million viewers across five games, marking the highest ratings since the 2017 series, which saw 18.93 million viewers tune in as the Houston Astros triumphed over the Dodgers in seven games. Notably, Wednesday’s Game 5 attracted 18.6 million viewers, the highest since 2019 when 23.22 million watched the Washington Nationals clinch the title in Game 7.

These figures represent a remarkable rebound from last year, when the series attracted a record-low average of just 9.11 million viewers as the Texas Rangers defeated the Arizona Diamondbacks in five games. This year’s audience was particularly captivated by the performance of 2024 World Series MVP Freddie Freeman, who made history with a record of six consecutive World Series games with a home run, all while battling an ankle injury.

What many fans may not have known was that Freeman also sustained a broken costal cartilage in one of his ribs just days before the postseason began. According to ESPN, he suffered this injury during a simulated game and exacerbated it in the batting cage at Dodger Stadium, collapsing in pain and requiring assistance to get to the X-ray room. “It only hurts when I miss,” Freeman reportedly told his father, expressing his determination to push through the pain. “So I’m just going to have to stop missing.”

At 35, Freeman is set to take a place of honor atop the parade bus on Friday, knowing he played a pivotal role in leading his team to victory. His resilience and commitment exemplify the spirit of the Dodgers and their fans.

As Los Angeles prepares to honor the team’s achievement, the parade not only celebrates the Dodgers’ latest championship but also brings the community together in a shared moment of joy and pride. The event promises to be a memorable occasion, filled with excitement and gratitude for a season marked by remarkable performances and unforgettable moments.

In anticipation of the parade, fans across Los Angeles are gearing up to show their support, whether in person or through social media, highlighting the deep connection between the Dodgers and their loyal fan base. This celebration is not just about a trophy; it’s a testament to the dedication, talent, and perseverance of a team that continues to inspire.

With all eyes on Friday’s parade, the city is ready to honor the Dodgers and revel in the thrill of victory, solidifying their place in baseball history once again.
