County to partner with premier hospital in enhancing community services

2 min read

The Nyeri County Government is set to form a strategic partnership with Outspan Hospital to boost local community services. This initiative aims to elevate living standards by collaborating on various projects, including enhancing social amenities and promoting youth development through sports.

Esther Ndung’u, Nyeri’s County Executive Committee Member (CECM) for Gender, Youth, Sports, and Social Services, met with Dr. Godfrey Kiruhi, Executive Director of Outspan Hospital, to discuss the potential collaboration. The initial meeting was focused on laying the groundwork for a formal agreement, which will be detailed in a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU). This MoU, once signed, will ensure that the terms of the partnership remain effective and binding, even with changes in future county administrations.

Ndung’u clarified that the recent meeting was preliminary and no formal MoU has been signed yet. She emphasized that the proposed agreement would need to be thoroughly reviewed and validated before it can be implemented. “Our discussions were preliminary, and we need to ensure that any agreement we reach is properly vetted and validated to ensure its effectiveness,” Ndung’u stated.

One of the central topics of discussion was the potential improvement of Kinunga Stadium in Tetu Sub County. The collaboration aims to address and enhance local facilities, providing better infrastructure for the community and creating more opportunities for youth engagement through sports.

The partnership between Nyeri County and Outspan Hospital is not unprecedented. The hospital, which operates as a Level 5 health facility and also runs a medical college, has previously worked with the county’s health department on various community-centered projects. Notably, Outspan Hospital has contributed to the renovation of Kinunga Stadium as part of its Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) efforts.

“Outspan Hospital has consistently collaborated with the County Government to deliver quality services to the public. The proposed MoU will help cement this collaboration, ensuring its sustainability and stability despite any future changes in local government,” Ndung’u explained.

If the MoU is finalized, it will also support the Nyeri Youth Development Policy, addressing critical issues such as drug abuse, sports development, and mental health challenges. The initiative is aligned with the department’s broader goals of engaging youth, advancing sports, combating drug addiction, and implementing modern solutions to improve quality of life.

Ndung’u reassured that the department remains committed to fostering partnerships that contribute to community development and advancing the welfare of Nyeri’s residents. The proposed collaboration with Outspan Hospital underscores the county’s dedication to enhancing local services and creating lasting positive impacts for the community.
