The 2024 George Mwangi Kabeberi Sevens, the fourth leg of the SportPesa National 7s Circuit, is set to kick off this Friday, August 23, 2024, at the RFUEA Grounds in Nairobi. This eagerly awaited event marks a highlight of the rugby calendar, promising fans and players a weekend of top-tier action and vibrant community spirit.

Jason Braganza, Chairman of the Mwamba Rugby Club, expressed his excitement for this year’s tournament. He highlighted the substantial support from various partners, which he believes will significantly enhance the event. “The George Mwangi Kabeberi Sevens is a premier fixture in our rugby calendar. This year, we’re elevating the event to new heights with the support of major industry players including SportPesa, Tusker, CIC Insurance, KCB, Tessen Sports, Reality Media, and the Kenya Rugby Union (KRU),” Braganza said. “We are committed to delivering an exceptional experience for everyone involved.”

Willis Ojwang, SportPesa’s Public Relations and Advertising Manager, underscored the importance of continued sponsorship, noting its impact over the years. “SportPesa’s involvement has been pivotal since our first edition. We’re proud of our role in the success of the current Shujaa team, including their African championship title. With the Olympians recently returning to the Dala 7s, we’re excited for another action-packed weekend,” Ojwang remarked.

Kenya Rugby Union CEO, Thomas Odundo, also praised the support from SportPesa, describing it as a significant boost for the tournament. “The Kabeberi Sevens is a key component of the National Sevens Circuit. We are thrilled with its growth and the positive impact it has had. Having SportPesa as the title sponsor is a major advantage,” Odundo stated.

During the sponsorship presentation at RFUEA Grounds, Tusker’s Area Sales Manager, Antony Wasilwa, highlighted the company’s commitment to rugby. “Tusker is honored to be the official alcohol beverage partner for the George Mwangi Kabeberi Sevens. Our sponsorship of 3 million shillings reflects our dedication to supporting and developing rugby in Kenya,” Wasilwa said.

CIC Life Assurance’s Head of Operations, Tyrus Kanja, reiterated their long-standing support for the tournament. “This is our fourth year supporting the Kabeberi Sevens, and we remain committed to this great event,” Kanja affirmed.

The 2024 George Mwangi Kabeberi Sevens will officially commence on August 24 at 9 a.m., featuring Division One and Division Two teams battling for top honors. The tournament will conclude on August 25, with high-intensity matches and thrilling rugby action.
