Kanayo O. Kanayo Tells Men Not Taking Care of Their Family to Stop Expecting Intimacy
2 min readRecently, veteran Nollywood actor Kanayo O. Kanayo stirred reactions with his statement on the role of men in marriages. In an Instagram post on Sunday, the 62-year-old thespian called out men who have not made sure of the pecuniary aspect of taking care of their families, saying such men “have no right to intimacy” with their partners.
Kanayo expounded that marriage is a fiscal responsibility. “Men must work to take care of their home according to the scriptures,” he said. Kanayo further illuminated it that it is not only culturally called for but also morally and spiritually required.
He also called upon them to cease shielding their husbands from financial accountability since this tends to build “laziness and irresponsibility” in men. Accountability of holding up one’s partner is what he believes a woman should take on.
Kanayo encouraged young ladies to be wise and first consider a man’s sense of responsibility before choosing their life partner, warning that they must not defend men who do not stand up to their financial responsibilities, for it may weigh them down and add to women’s burden in areas of bringing up children and paying house bills.
Other shared experiences further drove the point home that it was about time that the man tried to make an effort while alive. “A man who cannot feed his family has no right to use his private part on a woman; it is a responsibility,” he said, adding it only adds pressure to the women while men are supposed to stand up and take responsibility. His words have resonated deep inside many, discussing gender roles, accountability with finances, and what is expected of a man in marriage.
