Severe Flooding Disrupts Key Highway in Nigeria, Leaving Motorists Stranded

1 min read

On August 9, a severe flood caused a significant disruption on the federal highway connecting Kano to Maiduguri, leaving both motorists and residents stranded as they searched for alternative routes. The intense flooding resulted in a massive crater forming in the middle of the road, effectively cutting off a crucial transportation link between Nigeria’s Northwest and Northeast regions.

Bauchi State Governor Bala Muhammad conducted an on-site inspection and expressed grave concern over the damage. He highlighted the critical role of the highway and noted that the dual carriageways on the Northeast segment had been completely washed out by the flood. Governor Muhammad underscored the severity of the situation and the impact on regional connectivity.

In response to the disaster, Governor Muhammad has urged the Federal Government to intervene urgently. He emphasized the importance of the highway and the need for immediate repairs to restore transportation. The governor also stated that if the federal authorities are unable to address the issue promptly, alternative measures will be pursued, including potential remedial actions similar to those implemented during the last rainy season.

This flooding event has stirred significant concern online, as images of the damaged highway circulate, highlighting the urgent need for infrastructure repairs and effective flood management strategies in the affected regions.
