Shabana FC’s KPL Prospects Enhanced by Lucrative SportPesa Sponsorship

2 min read

Shabana FC, a Football Kenya Federation Premier League team, has received a significant boost to its ambitions with a new sponsorship deal from Kenya’s premier gaming company, SportPesa. The Kisii-based club has secured a three-year partnership worth Sh75 million, which translates to an annual sponsorship of Sh25 million.

The sponsorship comes at a crucial time for Shabana FC, who narrowly avoided relegation last season, finishing 14th in the league. As they prepare for the upcoming season, which kicks off on August 24, 2024, the club faces a challenging task of climbing up the league standings and improving their performance.

SportPesa’s Partnerships Manager, Willis Ojwang, emphasized the impact of the partnership on the club and its supporters. “This collaboration is not just about financial support; it’s about making a meaningful impact. It promises an enhanced fan experience and is expected to attract greater talent to the team,” Ojwang said.

Benard Chauro, Head of Operations at SportPesa, highlighted the company’s commitment to fostering the growth of sports in Kenya. “Today marks a significant achievement in our sponsorship and partnership journey. We have been dedicated to supporting sports development for some time, and this partnership underscores our commitment to ensuring the players have a reliable ally in their pursuit of success,” Chauro stated.

Innocent Muganda, representing the Betting Control and Licensing Board (BCLB) Chair, Jane Makau, praised SportPesa for its positive influence on the community. “This sponsorship is a step towards creating fruitful engagements that will improve outcomes. It provides an opportunity for the youth to showcase their talents and benefit from their hard work,” Muganda noted.

Kisii Governor Simba Arati, who is also a patron of Shabana FC, assured that the team is prepared to play its home matches at Gusii Stadium. The stadium had been closed for renovations during the last season, forcing Shabana FC to use Raila Odinga Stadium in the neighboring Homa Bay County. “I am pleased to announce that Gusii Stadium is now ready to host matches. The pitch has been renovated, and we look forward to welcoming fans back to their home ground,” Governor Arati said.

The announcement of the new partnership was celebrated by Shabana FC’s fan associations from various regions, who expressed their appreciation for the support. The involvement of SportPesa is expected to boost the club’s morale and enhance their chances of success in the upcoming season.

This substantial sponsorship is a testament to SportPesa’s ongoing dedication to supporting sports at all levels and providing opportunities for growth and development. As Shabana FC gears up for a new season, the backing from SportPesa could be a game-changer in their quest to climb higher in the league and achieve their goals.
