Three teenage boys tragically lost their lives in a fatal accident that occurred in the Masantare area along the Narok-Bomet Highway. The incident took place when the motorcycle they were riding on collided with an oncoming Isuzu FRR lorry.
According to Narok County Police Commander Riko Ngare, the accident happened last night. The motorcycle, which was operated by an 18-year-old rider, was traveling from Bomet Town with two 17-year-old passengers. As they approached Masantare, the rider attempted to overtake another vehicle but failed to navigate the maneuver safely, resulting in a head-on collision with the lorry.
The two passengers on the motorcycle died instantly at the scene of the accident. The rider was critically injured and was transported to Ololulunga Sub County Hospital. Despite medical efforts, he succumbed to his injuries shortly after arriving at the hospital. The driver of the lorry was unharmed in the crash.
Following the accident, the bodies of the deceased were taken to Longisa Hospital Mortuary, where they will be preserved until an autopsy is conducted. Both the motorcycle and the lorry have been towed to Ololulunga Police Station for further inspection.
This tragic event comes just a week after another motorcycle-related fatality occurred. A motorbike rider was killed instantly in a collision with a matatu at Duka Moja, located along the Narok-Maai Mahiu Road.
In response to the increasing number of road accidents involving motorcyclists, Narok Governor Patrick Ntutu spoke out during a church service in Ntulele last Sunday. He expressed deep concern about the rising toll of such incidents and urged motorcycle riders to adhere to traffic regulations to prevent further tragedies.
Governor Ntutu highlighted recent incidents, including the deaths of two brothers who were riding a motorbike near Ntulele trading center just a month ago. He also recalled a recent accident near Katakala that resulted in the deaths of three tourists and their driver.
The ongoing concerns about road safety reflect a broader issue with traffic management and the need for improved compliance with safety regulations to prevent future accidents and save lives.
