Jennifer Lopez and Ben Affleck Announce Divorce After Two Years of Marriage

2 min read

Hollywood power couple Jennifer Lopez and Ben Affleck are heading for a divorce, just two years after their highly publicized marriage. Lopez filed for divorce on Tuesday in the Los Angeles County Superior Court.

The couple, often referred to by the media as “Jennifer,” first married in a small Las Vegas ceremony in July 2022 before hosting a larger celebration in Georgia the following month. Their relationship first began in 2002 when they met while working on the set of the film Gigli. Although they initially planned to marry that year, their relationship ended in early 2004.

Nearly 20 years later, Lopez and Affleck rekindled their romance. “Love is beautiful. Love is kind. And it turns out love is patient. Twenty years patient,” Lopez remarked in 2022 upon announcing their Las Vegas nuptials.

According to the court filing, Lopez or her attorney must formally notify Affleck with a copy of her divorce petition. Media reports suggest that Lopez, who had taken Affleck’s last name legally, did not detail any prenuptial agreement in her divorce petition.

The court documents stipulate that both Lopez, 55, and Affleck, 52, are required to disclose comprehensive financial information, including their income, expenses, properties, and debts. They must also report any changes to their financial status until a final settlement is reached. Lopez has been given 60 days to file her financial disclosure, with Affleck having another 60 days to submit his information after her filing. Failure to comply could result in court-imposed sanctions.

Speculation about their relationship had been rife in recent months. The couple reportedly listed their Beverly Hills mansion for $65 million (£50 million) and were frequently seen apart without their wedding rings.

Affleck, a two-time Academy Award winner, was previously married to actress Jennifer Garner, whom he met while filming the 2001 movie Pearl Harbor. They were married for a decade before separating in 2015 and share three children.

Lopez, a multifaceted entertainer known as J.Lo, has been married four times. Her first marriage was to Cuban-born waiter Ojani Noa from 1997 to 1998, followed by a union with her former backup dancer Cris Judd from 2001 to 2003. She was also married to singer Marc Anthony, with whom she has twins, from 2004 to 2014. Additionally, Lopez was once engaged to New York Yankees star Alex Rodriguez.

The news of the divorce marks a dramatic end to what was seen as a high-profile rekindling of a once-cherished romance. As the couple moves forward with their separate lives, the public remains intrigued by the ongoing developments of their split.
