Chidimma Adetshina, the reigning Miss Universe Nigeria 2024, has been appointed as the brand ambassador for Enugu State by Governor Peter Mbah. This announcement was made during a special homecoming event for Adetshina, who is also a former finalist in the Miss South Africa competition.
In an Instagram post, Adetshina expressed her heartfelt gratitude for the appointment, highlighting the importance of her Nigerian roots. This new role comes as she prepares to represent Nigeria in the upcoming Miss Universe competition in Mexico on November 16, 2024.
Governor Mbah praised the 23-year-old model, stating that her resilience embodies the spirit of the people of Enugu. He noted that her journey, marked by challenges and triumphs, serves as a powerful example of the grit and determination that defines the people of the state.
Adetshina shared her personal journey on Instagram, explaining that being chosen to represent Nigeria came at a difficult time in her life. Earlier this year, she faced backlash regarding her nationality, which led her to withdraw from the Miss South Africa pageant. This setback, however, did not deter her; she returned to Nigeria and participated in the Miss Universe Nigeria pageant, where she ultimately claimed the title.
Reflecting on her appointment, Adetshina wrote, “I had the honour of being in the presence of Governor Peter Ndubisi Mbah. Upon my homecoming, I was received and appointed as the brand ambassador of Enugu State. I cannot express my gratitude for all the great things I have achieved in my father’s land. Nigeria, thank you for picking me up when I was on my knees.”
Governor Mbah reiterated his pride in Adetshina’s accomplishments, emphasizing her connection to Enugu, specifically her roots in Amurri, Nkanu West Local Government Area. He expressed hope that her story would inspire the youth, particularly young women, to pursue their dreams with tenacity.
As the new brand ambassador, Adetshina will collaborate with the Enugu State government on various initiatives aimed at youth development and empowerment. Her role is seen as an opportunity to serve as a motivational figure for young Nigerians, showcasing the potential of determination and resilience.
“We are confident she will continue to shine as a symbol of excellence and resilience as she prepares to represent Nigeria and Enugu on the global stage at the Miss Universe 2024 pageant,” Mbah stated, offering the full support of the state as Adetshina embarks on this international journey.
Since her crowning, Adetshina has been actively engaging in community service and outreach across Nigeria. Recently, she visited an Internally Displaced Persons (IDP) camp in Karonmajigi, Abuja. IDPs, as recognized by the UN Refugee Agency, are individuals who have been forced to flee their homes due to conflict, violence, or disasters but remain within their country.
Alongside a video of her visit, Adetshina shared her experiences on Instagram, saying, “It was an amazing experience connecting with the children and the internally displaced people.”
Additionally, she celebrated Nigeria’s Independence Day on October 1 with a stunning photoshoot, donning a beautiful white beaded gown and a traditional gele headwrap. In her post, she articulated her pride in representing a nation rich in cultural diversity and resilience, stating, “Independence Day is not just a day to celebrate our freedom; it’s a day to showcase our unity, love, harmony, and strength as a nation.”
As the date for the Miss Universe 2024 competition approaches, Chidimma Adetshina is set to carry not just her own aspirations but also the hopes of her home state and country on her shoulders. The global competition will take place in Mexico, where she will vie for the title previously held by Miss Universe 2023, Sheynnis Palacios of Nicaragua. With her spirit and dedication, Adetshina is poised to make her mark on the world stage, embodying the very essence of resilience that she has come to represent.
