Ed Sheeran Joins Taylor Swift for Electrifying Eras Tour Finale in London

3 min read

Taylor Swift made a memorable return to London’s Wembley Stadium on Thursday evening, marking the beginning of the final segment of her Eras Tour’s European leg. The concert, attended by a packed crowd of 92,000, featured a special appearance by her close friend and fellow musician Ed Sheeran.

Sheeran’s appearance was a highlight of the show, as he joined Swift to perform their popular collaborations “Everything Has Changed” and “End Game.” Swift expressed her gratitude for Sheeran’s presence, acknowledging his effort to join her despite his ongoing tour commitments. Sheeran’s surprise performance during the acoustic section of the show elicited a huge cheer from the audience.

This concert was Swift’s first performance since her Vienna shows were canceled last week due to a thwarted terrorist plot. Additionally, it marked her return to the UK following a tragic incident in Southport, where three children were killed at a Swift-themed dance class. While Swift has privately reached out to the affected families, she did not address these events publicly during the concert.

In Vienna, the cancellation was prompted by authorities’ announcement of a foiled terrorist attack targeting one of Swift’s sold-out shows at the Ernst Happel Stadium. Swift has refrained from discussing the incident publicly but previously expressed her shock and sorrow over the Southport tragedy, where she described the loss as “completely shocking.”

Despite these somber events, the Wembley concert proceeded with the high energy typical of Swift’s shows. The setlist was kept under wraps until the performance, and Sheeran’s unexpected appearance was a thrilling moment for fans. The duo performed their 2012 hit “Everything Has Changed” and their 2017 collaboration “End Game,” followed by a duet of Sheeran’s hit ballad “Thinking Out Loud.”

Swift took the opportunity to praise Sheeran, referring to him as “one of my best friends in the world” and acknowledging his dedication to performing despite his busy schedule.

The show, which ran for over three hours, featured a meticulously planned setlist with minimal improvisation. Swift’s interactions with the audience were heartfelt, yet largely consistent with her usual tour script. She expressed her emotional response to the massive crowds, noting how overwhelming the experience has been and how she would miss these performances.

Swift’s choice of surprise songs, a hallmark of her concerts, included “King of My Heart” from the “Reputation” album and “The Alchemy” from her latest release, “The Tortured Poets Department.” While these selections did not explicitly reveal her personal feelings, they demonstrated the vast scope of her musical repertoire.

In light of recent events, additional security measures were implemented at Wembley Stadium. Non-ticket holders were prohibited from gathering outside the venue—a practice known as “Tay-gating”—and stringent bag policies were enforced. These precautions were part of heightened security arrangements for Swift’s Wembley shows, which also include performances on Friday, Saturday, Monday, and Tuesday.

Swift’s Wembley run, which includes five consecutive nights, aims to equal a venue record set by Take That in 2011. Earlier in the year, Swift performed in Edinburgh, Liverpool, Cardiff, and Dublin as part of her UK and Ireland tour. Her setlist, spanning ten studio albums, comprises 46 songs and features 16 costume changes.

The Eras Tour, which began in Glendale, Arizona, in March last year, has seen Swift performing across the globe. After extensive tours in the US, Mexico, Argentina, Brazil, Japan, Australia, and Singapore, the European leg commenced in France and included multiple UK dates. The tour is set to conclude later this year with final performances in the US and Canada.

As Taylor Swift wraps up her international tour, her Wembley performances are poised to leave a lasting impact, reflecting both her resilience and the enduring enthusiasm of her global fanbase.
