Fans fuming after unofficial Bridgerton ball flops

3 min read

The third season of Netflix's period drama Bridgerton was released earlier this year.

Bridgerton enthusiasts were left disillusioned after an unofficial ball held in Detroit, inspired by the popular Netflix series, failed to meet expectations. Scheduled for Sunday, the event was marketed as a lavish celebration reminiscent of Regency-era high society, promising an evening filled with music, dance, and elegance.

However, social media quickly lit up with complaints from attendees who described the event as a “scam.” Critics pointed to subpar decorations, poorly prepared food, and scant entertainment—highlighting a disappointing experience that fell flat of its grand promises. The event, organized by Uncle & Me LLC, was not affiliated with Netflix or the production company Shondaland.

Promotional materials for the ball invited fans to “step into the enchanting world of the Regency era,” claiming guests would enjoy “sophistication, grace, and historical charm.” However, many attendees shared photos and videos that depicted a stark contrast to the advertised luxury, with some women dressed in beautiful gowns but left sitting on the floor, scrolling through their phones.

One disgruntled attendee compared the experience to the infamous Fyre Festival, stating, “This is right up there with the Fyre Festival scam.” Others echoed similar sentiments, with one person lamenting, “I’ve seen kids’ parties that look better. It was bare and ugly.” Reports indicated that many guests began leaving by 9 PM, disillusioned with the lackluster setup.

Ticket prices varied, starting around $150, with some opting for premium packages that included dinner. Yet, complaints about the meal flooded in. Attendees described the food as “terrible,” with one individual noting that the chicken was undercooked and the pasta cold. Others expressed frustration over food running out before they had a chance to eat.

The entertainment also failed to impress. Guests were led to believe there would be a full orchestra, but instead, only a single violinist performed. Additionally, a pole-dancing stripper was hired, leaving many fans perplexed about the relevance to Bridgerton. “They hired a stripper; we were promised an instrumental performance,” one TikTok user lamented, adding that she witnessed over 60 people leaving just as she arrived.

One attendee expressed regret over her outfit, feeling she had “wasted” the effort she put into dressing for the event. “I was ready to be the diamond of the season. I left early,” she wrote, capturing the disappointment felt by many.

In an interview with local news outlet WXYZ-TV, Tink, a Detroit acrobat, revealed she had been hired as a pole dancer just three hours prior to the event. She expressed sympathy for the attendees, stating, “I just feel very bad for all the patrons who showed up to the event. My goal as a performer is to bring happiness and cheer to everyone, so it kind of bummed me out knowing everyone was so unhappy.”

Social media users quickly drew parallels between this event and other viral failures, such as the Fyre Festival in the Bahamas and the Willy Wonka experience in Glasgow, which also ended in disappointment for attendees.

In response to the backlash, Uncle & Me LLC released a statement acknowledging the issues faced during the event. “We understand that not everyone had the experience they hoped for at our most recent event Sunday night at The Harmonie Club, and for that, we sincerely apologize,” they stated. The company acknowledged that organizational shortcomings affected the enjoyment of guests and took full responsibility for the failures.

They further assured guests that they were reviewing all concerns raised and would be communicating potential resolution options shortly. Despite their efforts to address the dissatisfaction, many fans remain wary, and the fallout from this event continues to dominate conversations online.
