Justin Timberlake Set to Plead Guilty to Driving While Impaired in Suffolk County Case

2 min read

Justin Timberlake was arrested in Sag Harbor, New York in June.

Justin Timberlake is poised to enter a guilty plea for driving while impaired (DWI) as part of a negotiated settlement with Suffolk County, New York prosecutors. This arrangement will see the dismissal of a more serious driving while intoxicated (DWI) charge against the singer, as reported by a source familiar with the case.

The plea deal will involve a fine, the amount of which will be determined at a later date. However, the judge overseeing the case, who will review and approve the plea agreement during a hearing scheduled for Friday morning, retains the discretion to impose additional penalties. Timberlake is expected to be present at the hearing.

Previously, Timberlake had entered a not guilty plea to the DWI charge, a misdemeanor, in August. If convicted, he faced a maximum penalty of one year in jail and a fine up to $2,500.

In New York State, a blood alcohol content (BAC) exceeding 0.05 is considered legal evidence of impairment, while a BAC of 0.08 or higher is indicative of intoxication, as outlined by the Department of Motor Vehicles. Timberlake’s arrest occurred in Sag Harbor in June. Police reported that Timberlake left The American Hotel bar shortly after midnight, drove his 2025 BMW down Main Street, failed to stop at a stop sign, and did not stay in his lane. Additionally, Timberlake allegedly failed a field sobriety test and refused to take a breathalyzer test multiple times, stating, “No, I’m not doing a chemical test.”

During a hearing in late July, Timberlake’s attorney challenged the claim of intoxication, asserting that the singer’s arrest was unjustified. Timberlake has been busy this summer with his Forget Tomorrow Tour and is scheduled to perform in New Jersey on September 28.
