Janice Small Combs, mother of Sean “Diddy” Combs, has expressed her deep sorrow regarding the serious allegations against her son, describing them as “lies.” The renowned musician, famous for hits like “I’ll Be Missing You,” was arrested last month on charges of sex trafficking and racketeering. He is currently being held in a Manhattan detention center after being denied bail.
In a heartfelt statement, Janice defended her son, acknowledging that while he has made mistakes in the past, he is “not the monster they have painted him to be.” She expressed her anguish over seeing her son judged based on a fabricated narrative rather than the truth. The statement, attributed to Janice and the Combs family, was issued by her lawyer, Natlie G. Figgers.
The statement comes in the wake of reports that Diddy could face lawsuits from over 100 additional accusers, both male and female, alleging sexual assault, rape, and sexual exploitation. Diddy’s legal team has categorically denied these and all previous allegations, labeling them as “false and defamatory.”
Diddy has been under scrutiny since last year when his former partner, Cassie Ventura, accused him of rape and abuse. Although he denied these allegations, the case was settled out of court just one day after it was filed. Since then, he has been sued by 12 other women, many claiming that the rapper drugged and assaulted them.
Federal agents raided Diddy’s properties in March as part of the ongoing criminal investigation. In May, a video surfaced showing him physically assaulting Ventura in a hotel room in 2016, adding further complexity to the situation. Janice referenced this incident in her statement, acknowledging that her son is not perfect. She noted, “My son may not have been entirely truthful about certain things,” alluding to his previous denial of violence against Ventura, which contradicted the evidence from the hotel’s surveillance footage.
“Sometimes, the truth and a lie become so closely intertwined that it becomes terrifying to admit one part of the story,” she continued. Janice suggested that her son’s civil legal team may have opted to settle Ventura’s lawsuit rather than contest it, a decision she believes the federal government misinterpreted as an admission of guilt.
Diddy had previously expressed remorse for his actions captured in the video, stating, “I take full responsibility for my actions in that video. I was disgusted then when I did it. I’m disgusted now.” However, Janice Small Combs stressed that one incident does not equate to guilt for all the other serious allegations he faces.
“It is truly agonizing to watch the world turn against my son so quickly and easily over lies and misconceptions,” she remarked, asserting that he has not been given a fair opportunity to present his side of the story. She also suggested that some of his accusers may be motivated by financial gain.
Diddy is scheduled to appear in court again on October 9, where his lawyers will argue for his release on bail. Previously, prosecutors argued against granting bail, claiming that he poses a “significant risk” to the upcoming trial. They informed a New York judge that Diddy had attempted to obstruct the investigation by contacting victims and witnesses, allegedly providing them with false narratives about the events in question.
As the legal proceedings continue, the public and media remain intensely focused on the unfolding situation. Janice Small Combs’ statement serves as a reminder of the personal toll these allegations take, not only on Diddy but also on his family. While the legal system will determine the outcome, the emotional implications of the case resonate deeply with those close to him.
In the meantime, the pressure mounts as more details emerge and the legal battle continues. Janice remains steadfast in her support, asserting her belief in her son’s character and expressing hope for justice in the face of overwhelming adversity.
