Shawn Mendes says he’s still figuring out his sexuality

During a recent concert in Colorado, Shawn Mendes took a moment to address a personal topic that has long surrounded him. In a video that quickly gained traction on social media, the 26-year-old singer spoke candidly to his audience at the Red Rocks Amphitheatre about his sexuality.

“Since I was really young, there’s been a lot of talk about my sexuality,” Mendes shared, reflecting on his early start in the music industry at the age of 15. “I think it’s a bit silly, because sexuality is such a beautifully complex thing, and it’s hard to fit into neat categories.”

The Canadian artist expressed that this ongoing scrutiny felt invasive, as he was still on his own journey of self-discovery. “It’s something very personal that I’m still figuring out,” he explained. “The truth is, I’m just like everyone else—trying to understand it all.”

Mendes acknowledged the challenges of navigating these feelings in a society that often imposes rigid expectations. “Sometimes I know where I stand, and other times I don’t. It can be really scary,” he admitted.

He chose to speak out now to foster a sense of connection with his fans. “I’m trying to be brave and allow myself to experience my humanity,” he said. “That’s all I really want to share for now.”

In the past, Mendes has been linked to fellow musicians Camila Cabello and Hailey Bieber (before her marriage to Justin Bieber). He is set to release his new self-titled album on November 15.
