Wutah Kobby: ‘Its unfair to ‘retire’ artiestes early’
2 min readGhanaian musician Wutah Kobby also categorically opposes any attempts to force musicians into “early retirement” saying artistes could go on to perform at any age.
In an interview with Graphic Showbiz from his USA base Tuesday October 15, former member of the Wutah music duo, Wutah Kobby said he was worried that society disrespects musicians who have been around for a long time in Ghana. He pointed out to say it is high time to do something on this saying that seasoned artistes have many things to impart to especially the younger generation.
To often people have mindset of choosing when an artiste should retire from active music production. Everyone should be creative regardless of how old he or she is. This means that artistes should be free to continue creating and performing until they feel like they want to stop, he said.
He said that while in other careers like sports, people can get careers ended early by physical disabilities, for instance, music has no ceiling. “Music is life,” he added. ‘It’s with us right from when we are born until when we die.’
For instance, Wutah Kobby used South African legend, Yvonne Chaka Chaka performances recently in Ghana as an example. The lady has been into music for years now she still has charisma that can command a crowd. That is why it is regrettable to see Ghanaians count the older musicians out and believe that they have nothing more to offer any more,” he fumed.
Currently, Wutah Kobby has outrecent single by the title “Dollar Dollar” and is in the studio working on an Ep. The as-yet untitled EP will consist of five or six songs and will involve guest appearances from other Ghanaian musicians.
I am optimistic that this project would go well in Ghana as it is a African country. It’s my mission to help promote it and it’s a religious experience for me,” he added.
