Dr. Dre Slapped with $10 Million Lawsuit Over Alleged Harassment of Therapist
1 min readDr. Dre is being sued by his psychotherapist of some time, Dr. Charles Sophy, for $10 million over an alleged course of harassment and intimidation.
In court documents, Dr. Sophy claims Dre took him through a “systematic and malicious” campaign of threats, intimidation, and homophobic rhetoric. This is allegedly after Dr. Sophy mediated the divorce between Dre and his ex-wife, Nicole Young.
Dr. Sophy also complains that Dre sent him many threatening texts, including, at various times, threats that he would “pay for” perceived offenses. He also claims that Dre tried to pressure him into revealing confidences about a third party, and that Dre sent men impersonating FBI agents to threaten him.
Dr. Sophy, in the lawsuit, expressed that he is now living in constant fear, seeking compensatory and punitive damages. He said he has been compelled to wear a bulletproof vest and scared of leaving his house.
The rapper, through his attorney Howard King, has denied the claims and turned the tables on Dr. Sophy himself, accusing the psychiatrist of misconduct, including the attempt to coerce Dre’s children into maligning their father. King also mentioned that Dr. Sophy is under his own investigation by the Osteopathic Medical Board of California and that he has filed the lawsuit as a desperate attempt to avoid scrutiny.
Dr. Sophy has denied all these accusations and maintained that he was harassed by Dre. The case is likely to go into trial.
