Vybz Kartel Proposes to Longtime Girlfriend Sidem

Dancehall icon Vybz Kartel, born Adijah Palmer, has made the next move in his long-distance relationship with his long-time girlfriend, Sidem Öztürk-a marriage proposal that has gone viral and pulled at the heartstrings of any fan who has seen or heard about it. Kartel did a hotel room proposal where he went on one knee, surprisingly and emotionally, to be handed an engagement ring.

This was a momentous occurrence for the couple whose life has been marred by years of separation from each other due to Kartel‘s imprisonment, which largely set their love story alight into the next phase. Kartel first shared the ring on his social media platforms before proposing to her. He tenderly reflected on their journey together in an Instagram post he made following the proposal.

An overjoyed Kartel declared in the emotional clip, which he shared on social media: “It‘s official.I proposed in prison, but I proposed in real life.” He continued to express, “You were there when I needed you most, and I‘ll never leave you baby. I cherished every visit, every phone call, all moments spent talking, laughing, and at times crying together. You‘ve been my rock, my best friend, and my companion. I pray we stay together for as long as I live. I love you, baby.”

The couple‘s bond dates back to 2015 when the two first met while Kartel was serving a sentence for murder. Through it all, the two have remained devoted to one another, their relationship only deepening over time. Kartel‘s conviction was overturned earlier this year, leading to his release from prison in July.

Since then, Kartel and Sidem have opened up their lives to the public a little bit more through their YouTube channel, Kiss Me Baby, giving snippets of their day-to-day routine and all the special dynamics of their relationship.

In several interviews, Sidem described her great admiration for Kartel, not only as an artist but as a man with whom she had fallen in love. “I found him very handsome… an obsession,” she once described him to be her “perfect match.”

This is the second time Kartel has expressed this very specific desire to marry Sidem, the first one while he was behind bars, further showing the depth of their love standing through all manner of adversity.
