Guarantorship Emerges as Primary Method for Voter Registration in Oti Region

1 min read

Aug. 7,- The recent mop-up voter registration exercise in the Oti Region has highlighted the predominant use of guarantorship as the primary means of verifying eligibility for new voters. According to the Oti Region Electoral Commission’s (EC) 2024 statistics, out of a total of 2,988 newly registered voters, a significant majority, 2,110, utilized guarantors to secure their Voter ID Cards. In contrast, 747 individuals used the Ghana Card, while only one person relied on the Ghana Passport for voter registration.

These figures, detailed in a report provided by Regional Director Mr. Mahama Nuhu, emphasize the central role of community endorsements in the registration process. The high number of voters using guarantorship reflects a reliance on local support networks to meet registration requirements. The report indicates that while digital and formal identification methods like the Ghana Card are also in use, they are less prevalent compared to the traditional method of personal endorsements.
