Week 8 of the 2024 NFL season promises thrilling action as teams vie for position and players aim to shine. The week kicked off with a notable game, where the Los Angeles Rams secured a 30-20 win over the Minnesota Vikings, sparking discussions due to some controversial calls.

With no teams on bye this week, Sunday brings a full slate of games, featuring several key matchups that are must-watch events. Here’s a breakdown of three highlight games to follow.

Philadelphia Eagles (4-2) vs. Cincinnati Bengals (3-4) – 1 p.m. ET

The Philadelphia Eagles and Cincinnati Bengals are both looking to solidify their seasons after facing ups and downs. The Eagles, under scrutiny for their offensive struggles, found some rhythm with back-to-back victories over the Cleveland Browns and the New York Giants. Coach Nick Sirianni praised his team’s “selflessness” as they work to rediscover their identity.

“Winning is the priority, but seeing how our players contribute positively, even when they aren’t the focal point, has been impressive,” Sirianni noted.

On the other side, the Bengals are riding a two-game winning streak after a tough start to the season. Quarterback Joe Burrow has demonstrated his talent, ranking in the top 10 in major passing categories. However, he faces a tough test against Eagles defensive coordinator Vic Fangio, who is known for keeping quarterbacks on their toes.

“It’s about finding completions and getting the ball to my playmakers, regardless of the coverage,” Burrow explained. “Sometimes, those small gains lead to big plays later on.”

Chicago Bears (4-2) vs. Washington Commanders (5-2) – 4:25 p.m. ET

This game could showcase the top two picks from the 2024 NFL Draft: Caleb Williams of the Bears and Jayden Daniels of the Commanders. Both quarterbacks have shown flashes of brilliance, making their matchup one to watch.

Daniels has enjoyed a remarkable start to his rookie season, although he is currently dealing with a rib injury sustained in Week 7. Commanders head coach Dan Quinn has expressed optimism about Daniels’ availability but noted he is “week-to-week.” If he can’t play, former No. 2 overall pick Marcus Mariota will step in.

Meanwhile, Williams has grown more comfortable in the NFL after a shaky beginning. With seven touchdowns and just one turnover in his last three games, he is forming strong connections with his receivers, including DJ Moore and Keenan Allen.

Commanders cornerback Mike Sainristil acknowledged the challenge Williams presents but expressed confidence in their defense’s preparation. “We’ve faced various quarterbacks, and now it’s about containing him within the pocket,” Sainristil said.

Dallas Cowboys (3-3) vs. San Francisco 49ers (3-4) – 8:20 p.m. ET

The iconic rivalry between the Dallas Cowboys and San Francisco 49ers will take center stage on Sunday Night Football. Their clashes in the 1990s set the standard for playoff drama, but both teams are looking for resurgence this season after struggling with consistency.

The 49ers, who are facing injury challenges, are still reeling from a loss to the Kansas City Chiefs in Week 7. With star running back Christian McCaffrey out and receiver Brandon Aiyuk sidelined for the season, San Francisco is seeking to turn their fortunes around.

On the flip side, the Cowboys have had a mixed bag this season, coming off a disappointing 38-point loss to the Detroit Lions in their last outing. They are hoping to break their trend of home losses and capitalize on their away wins.

49ers coach Kyle Shanahan emphasized the importance of team character during tough times. “We know how to respond when things aren’t going perfectly,” Shanahan stated. “It’s about getting to work and improving.”
