New England Patriots captain Jabrill Peppers was arrested over the weekend on serious charges, including assault, strangulation, and drug possession, following a domestic disturbance, according to police reports released on Monday.

The 29-year-old Peppers appeared in Quincy District Court for his arraignment, facing multiple charges, including assault and battery with a dangerous weapon and possession of a Class “B” substance, reportedly cocaine. The situation unfolded early Saturday morning when Braintree police responded to a call regarding an altercation at a residence.

Police reports indicate that Peppers allegedly shoved his girlfriend to the ground, pushed her head against a wall, and placed his hands around her neck in an attempt to strangle her. The victim reportedly sustained injuries to her face and knees, for which she received treatment at home.

After his arrest, Peppers posted $2,500 bail and is scheduled to return to court on November 22. However, he has been granted the option to waive his appearance at that hearing.

In court, Peppers’ attorney, Marc Brofsky, claimed that evidence would cast doubt on the allegations against his client, including videotaped footage. He also noted that Peppers has agreed to avoid contact with the woman involved in the incident.

Patriots coach Jerod Mayo addressed the media on Monday, stating that the team is in the process of gathering more information about Peppers’ arrest. For the time being, Mayo indicated that Peppers would be allowed access to the team’s facilities. “We don’t know enough to say he shouldn’t be in the building,” Mayo commented.

Mayo further emphasized the importance of communication within the team regarding the incident. “We need to make sure the players know about it so we can learn from whatever happened,” he added.

Peppers, a safety in his third season with the Patriots, signed an extension with the team over the summer. He was initially drafted by the Cleveland Browns in 2017 and spent two seasons there before moving on to the New York Giants for three seasons.

Peppers has been dealing with a shoulder injury and did not participate in Sunday’s game, where the Patriots fell to the Miami Dolphins by a score of 15-10.

The Patriots organization was made aware of Peppers’ arrest on Saturday, indicating a prompt response to the situation. The unfolding legal issues surrounding Peppers could have implications for his future with the team, depending on how the case develops and the evidence presented.

As the Patriots navigate this challenging situation, both fans and teammates will be watching closely to see how the team addresses the implications of Peppers’ arrest and its potential impact on the season ahead. The combination of legal troubles and on-field performance will be crucial factors for Peppers moving forward in his career with the Patriots.
