Amputation of Teen Footballer’s Legs After Crash Has Not Dampened Optimism
1 min readA talented teenage footballer has remained optimistic even after losing both his legs in a car accident.
Adam Golebiewski, 18, from Banff, Aberdeenshire, was in a crash last September that left him with terrible injuries. But despite the fact that life has changed a lot for him, Golebiewski has not lost his will and is working hard on his rehabilitation process.
“Everybody has down days, but I’ll try to keep smiling,” he said to BBC Scotland News. “I am happy to be here.”
Golebiewski, a goalkeeper for Deveronside, has been rehabilitating at Woodend Hospital in Aberdeen since the accident. Already he has made some giant leaps, including going home for the first time last weekend to watch his team play.
The teenager also expressed his gratitude for the support his family, friends, and community had given him. He also spoke about the difficulties he went through, getting used to the new reality and emotional problems after the accident.
He wants now, while still recovering, to progress into the next stage of his life. Firm of mind, he wants to be able to walk again on prosthetic limbs and hopes someday to get back onto the football pitch.
“I am still a normal guy,” he said. “I am just going with the flow I suppose.”
Many people have been moved by Golebiewski’s story; loved ones, friends, and society in general admire his resilience and positivity.
