Café Gives Free Coffee for Dance Moves, and the Joy Is Contagious
2 min readAt Coffee Milano Café in Middleborough, Massachusetts, the scent of coffee now blends with the sudden bursts of energy and impromptu dance moves. The café launched a rather offbeat promotion last Friday: any customer ready to break into dance-each performance lasted only five seconds-was rewarded with a free cup of coffee.
The sign on the door read: “Want a FREE COFFEE?? Walk in and give us your BEST Dance moves for 5 seconds!!” And the kicker? Their dances would be recorded for social media.
The result? Pure joy.
Over the weekend, the cafe posted a TikTok montage of its patrons getting down to a version of Los del Río‘s “Macarena.” One woman kicked off her shoes and moonwalked, others did Irish jigs and waltzes, and some even flossed their way to free coffee. Conga lines and free-style moves rounded out the joy in the store that was palpable.
It went viral in no time, amassing more than 7 million views and 15,000 comments. The comments section on TikTok is flooded with love, to say the least:
“This is such a good way to spread positivity,” one user wrote.
“Girl took off her shoes and moonwalked! She deserved 2 cups,” added another.
“Why am I crying?! This makes me sooo happy,” said a third-a sentiment shared by many who felt uplifted with the light-hearted display.
The genius behind it all, café owner Josh Rashid, said he was inspired after seeing a pizza shop pull a similar stunt on social media.
“I thought, ‘This is genius,'” Rashid said. “The next day, we put up the sign and teased it on Facebook. About 15 to 20 people came in to dance for us—it was incredible.”
What struck a chord with Rashid was the deluge of positivity in the comments on the video. “Life isn‘t always so easy sometimes,” he said. “Sometimes, you just see something that puts this big a smile on your face–it brings tears to your eyes.”
With customers asking when the next “dance-for-coffee“ day will be, the café’s social media pages are already giving teasers for the next impromptu dance parties.
What’s Rashid‘s advice? “Just keep dancing. Life is short. We have good days and bad days, but sometimes a coffee and a dance make it all better.”
Well, tie up those dancing shoes–or better yet, kick them off–and get to Coffee Milano Café, because life‘s too short not to dance for your coffee.
