Alize van der Merwe, who was abducted while traveling alone in the Eastern Cape on Friday, has been safely released. According to Warrant Officer Ndiphiwe Mhlakuvana, a spokesperson for the Hawks, Van der Merwe and another woman were dropped off at a police station in Sulenkama on Thursday.
Following their release, the Hawks reported that both women were visibly traumatized by their ordeal. They were subsequently taken to a hospital for medical evaluation and care.
